Message from Bob Crowley

On February 24, almost 8 months ago, I decided to make my first run for public office by offering myself as a Democratic candidate for Rensselaer County Legislative District #2 which includes Poestenkill, North Greenbush and East Greenbush. I assure you this has been an eye-opening experience.

I have attended regular meetings of the legislature, public comment sessions, presentations of the county budget and the State of the County. I have read the Rules of the Legislature, the County Charter and the 2025 Budget. The most memorable sessions occurred when county citizens spoke to the legislature about their concerns and needs.

I heard pleas for help with animal control, improving ambulance coverage, helping neighborhoods in Brunswick plagued by overflow traffic from the Route 7 commercial corridor, opening Burden Lake Road, taking action to protect county citizens from impending federal government cuts, distribution of mortgage recording tax to the towns, the Dunham Reservoir, and many other concerns. I spoke about impending cuts to federal health care and their impact on my 101-year-old mother. As far as I can tell, our legislators have not taken or even proposed action to address these concerns.

After my presentation, I thought I might be approached for a conversation …or maybe a phone call…but I heard nothing. This is not the way a legislature should serve its citizens.

We are in a uniquely tumultuous time in American history, but we still have a democracy and will still have an election on November 4. Elections bring change and change can improve peoples’ lives. I hope you will come out to vote and help me to start that change.

Bob Crowley

Candidate for County Legislative District 2
