LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Fellow Dems: Some days are tougher than others. On Thursday night, the House voted to rescind $1 billion in previously allocated funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting, damaging local public media outlets, especially in rural America. Nearly $8 billion was cancelled for various foreign programs originally approved to assist impoverished countries dealing with disease, drought and famine. These funds were originally negotiated on a bi-partisan basis and signed into law, only to be stripped away along party lines through a rarely-used process called rescission. Meanwhile, people in power seem more concerned about the Epstein client list than the inhumane conditions at “Alligator Alcatraz” or masked ICE agents rounding up family members like cattle.
So, what do we do? Get involved! Many rallied on Thursday at the various John Lewis “Good Trouble” events around the country. Thank you if you were out there. And folks are realizing that there are local elections in November where your voice can be heard, maybe not nationally, but where it starts - on the local level. As Tip O’Neill taught us, “all politics is local.”
On Friday August 15, the Poestenkill Democratic Committee will be hosting the Great Poestenkill Cookout. In addition to picnic fare like hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, salads and more, we’ll have local vendors displaying and selling their products. You’ll see the flyer below and I hope you’ll be able to join us for food, conversation and community.
Meanwhile, remember that we are stronger together.
Susan
